Marianne Kongerslev is an associate professor in the Department of Culture and Learning where she teaches in the English programme.
She is described by the students as a super talented teacher with a passion both for the subjects she teaches and teaching itself.
"I’m delighted that the students who voted for me have benefited from my teaching," says Marianne Kongerslev.
Marianne Kongerslev researches and teaches American culture and literature, particularly focusing on gender, feminism, racialization and affect.
When she teaches, she tells the students that the classroom is a safe place with space for discussion while also acknowledging the fact that difficult topics and words may affect some students more than others.
Marianne Kongerslev's focus on mental health is another reason for her popularity among the students, and her now being named Humanities Teacher of the Year at SSH.
"There are many great ways to be an educator. I really just teach as I would want to be taught and about things I find interesting," says Marianne Kongerslev.
Marianne Kongerslev was selected among the candidates for teacher of the year from the various degree programmes at the faculty. In the recommendation from the Study Board for English, German and Cultural Understanding, the students comments about her include:
Talented and articulate teacher
”Marianne is a super talented, articulate teacher who creates a welcoming learning space.”
Engaging discussions
”Her teaching is engaging and varied, and provides opportunities for student participation in discussions about the topics she passionately teaches.”
Infectious passion and energy
”In addition to the fact that Marianne's teaching is highly relevant to understanding today's problems, her passion and energy rub off on us to such an extent that we want to immerse ourselves in even the most difficult topics.”
